Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Games of this magnitude have been rare for the Washington Redskins since the first Joe Gibbs era ended. In the second season of his second tenure with the Skins, Joe Gibbs has brought Washington back in the playoffs with a win over Philly 31 to 20. For the depleted Eagles, it was a fitting end to a miserable season. With McNabb and several other key starters sidelined by injuries and Terrell Owens banished from the team, Philadelphia was undermanned and overmatched. Following four straight trips to the NFC championship game, Philadelphia finished in last place in the NFC East with its worst record since going 5-11 in 1999, McNabb's rookie season and Andy Reid's first as Eagles coach.

Though there was a rumor of cancellations due to inclement weather, people toughed it out. Finding shelter in overhangs or braving the rains with umbrellas and rain ponchos these families and friends enjoyed the company of good food, bands, and most importantly fireworks!

But skies soon cleared, and the Independence day celebration continued throughout the night. The sprawling lands of the National Mall & Memorial Parks include the Mall, the public promenade extending from 3rd Street near the Capitol to 14th Street. The National Mall is the continuation of that space where congressionally authorized park icons, such as the Washington Monument, WWII and Lincoln Memorials stand.
