Some of you are right - some are wrong

San Jacinto is taller than the Washington Monument, true, but it's reinforced concrete, not stone, and the Washington Monument is not a "war memorial," it's a presidential memorial.
Anaconda Smoke Stack is taller but it's made of brick, it's a *smokestack*, not a presidential memorial, and no, at 70 feet in diameter it could definitely *not* "fit the Washington Monument inside it," that's a myth perpetuated by the Wikipedia entry and, besides, we're talking world's tallest masonry Obelisk here, so feel free to bite me.

The apex of the monument is the Light all seeing eye of the Deity, high and lifted up on the Monument. Let us who labor here below attempt to bring more and more of that Light to bear in the affairs of the city and of the nation.
