Not a Union Jack

That's a Grand Union flag. It symbolized the Union of Scotland and England. Note the absence of the red "X" or "Cross of St. Patrick" that wasn't added until, I believe, 1801. After the addition the third cross, which represents Ireland, it became known as the Union Jack.
