'Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations' Statue - Fruits of the Mouse - ANDREAS DEJA is considered one of the world's top animators. Born and raised in Germany, Andreas loved Disney animation from childhood. His heroes were legendary Disney animators Marc Davis and Milt Kahl, and Andreas became close friends and colleagues with both artists when he himself became a Disney artist. His first Disney assignment was designing characters for The Black Cauldron (1985). Since then, Andreas has served as supervising animator for such favorite characters as Gaston (Beauty and the Beast, 1991), Jafar (Aladdin, 1992), Scar (The Lion King, 1994), Hercules (Hercules, 1997), Mickey Mouse (Runaway Brain, 1995 and Fantasia/2000, 1999) and Lilo (Lilo & Stitch, 2002).

Friedrich St. Florian, World War II Memorial Design Architect. "What inspired me was what the incredible generation of Americans did in the middle of the last century. Americans took up arms on a global scale to defend the principles and ideals of our Nation. I would like the younger people to feel walking through this Memorial that if ever a moment in history reoccurs they will be compelled to fight for our principles."

Mikhail Lomize mlomize@umich.edu

With these words from the design architect it makes sense why the
memorial opted from showing the names of individuals lost in the war,
like the Vietnam Memorial, instead showing large marble pillars with
statements for "fight[ing] for our principles." Personally, I value
individuals more than abstract principles, so when a war memorial
replaces the personal human identities of each individual killed with
philosophical platitudes, which dehumanizes war, I believe it is a
disservice to future generations. War is very personal. This
memorial seems to purposefully show the opposite.

The Hubble Space Telescope's backup mirror

danpursell@msn.com

While optically perfect here on earth, the lens shape changed under zero g to a point where it was utterly useless. Possible the biggest dissapointemnt in Astronomy until the first repair was done by the Space Shuttle crews and Astronaut Story Musgrave.

Northrop Alpha, it was used as a utility transport.

danpursell@msn.com

More than a transport, Northrop used the knowledge gained in this as one of the first ALL-METAL designs. Technology advances gained here lead to the developement of the DC-3 and Aircraft construction as we know it today.

Above is a U-2 spy plane.

danpursell@msn.com

That is not a U-2 Spy Plane.
It is in-fact a
"THE" Bell Aircraft XP-59A Airacomet.
This was first US Jet Aircraft. First flown in 1942 using teh GE model 1-a engine (an improved version of the original "whittle" engine. The aircraft seen here was secretly transported with a "false" nose and propellor to disguise the actual nature of the beast. From this begining, the Lockheed P-80 emerged as the 1st operational military jet fighter.
