Three Five Pointed Stars

The five-pointed star, if drawn with points of equal length and angles of 36° at each point, is sometimes termed a golden five pointed star. If the colinear edges are joined together a pentagram is produced, which is the simplest of the unicursal star polygons, and a symbol of mystical and magical significance.

In the State House in Boston is a marble slab, which is a fac-simile of on that is in a very ancient church, a few miles from Stratford-on-Avon, England. On this slab are the name of Lawrence Washington and the family coat of arms, consisting of three five-pointed stars.

These threee five-pointed stars, ancestrally noted, were made thirteen stars, in Philadelphia, on the Star-Spangled Banner, that represented the thirteen original States.
