Mother's Day at Mount Vernon

Mother's Day was created by Anna Jarvis in Grafton, West Virginia in 1908. She wanted to accomplish her own mother's dream of making a celebration for all mothers. Although the idea of Mother's Day did not take off until Anna Jarvis enlisted the services of a wealthy Philadelphia merchant named John Wanamaker.
