When an extensive revision of Monticello was finished in 1809, it had become a 21-room amalgamation of Roman, Palladian, and French architectural ideals, a unique statement by one of history's great individuals and one of the U.S.'s finest presidents. Millions of people have flocked to Monticello since 1923 (when it was opened to the public).
