Washington laying the Cornerstone of the National Capitol

The mural shows President Washington receiving a silver plate which was deposited on the Cornerstone of the United States Capitol at the Masonic Ceremony he conducted under the auspices of the Grand Lodge of Maryland.

This majestic mural was the work of Allyn Cox, one of the most talented muralists in America. Cox worked for approximately 30 years at the Capitol building; he painted 26 murals in the House side, one in the Senate side and the frieze on the Capitol dome.
