unforgettable 1 out of 5 stars

I'll start with the good.... The bathrooms were not too dirty (though we were there 3 days before the second womens stall actually had toilet paper in it) and the folks that work there were quite nice and helpful. Sadly, they could in no way make up for the site itself, which is horrible! If you've ever heard someone say, "It was so loud it sounded like a freight train" you'll know just what they mean after staying here. There are only two rows in this campsite ... one backs up to a busy two lane road, the other backs up to railroad tracks with a busy 4 lane road just beyond them. The folks in the middle section were so close the backs of their campers were typically within 2 feet of touching. It was approximately 30 feet from the end of our pop-up to the train tracks. In between was a single line of trees and bushes with a path cut through to the tracks on about every 3rd site -- no fence -- no barrier. We had to really watch our 4-year-old son who at one point started heading up the path on the site next to us to get a better look at the train as it passed. The trains come through all day long and several ... yes, I said several times throughout the night, with an especially long one coming through around 3:30 or 4am each night. The sites resemble large parking spaces divided only by a short wooden fence -- two posts and two horizontal beams. If you get past the regular flow of trains, then you can feel free to turn your attention to the ant infestation. We bought all sort of ant spray and ant traps our first night but they still wound up getting into all of our stuff. We wound up leaving a day early when the ants finally made it into our beds. I woke up one morning to find an ant crawling up my arm and more on the bed. I want to add that the only thing we ate while there was pop-tarts and cereal -- outside. All our other meals we ate out so we did not have a lot out to attract ants. We had to fog our camper when we arrived home to make sure we got rid of all the ants. And then there was the night that one of seasonal site campers had a drunken knock down drag out fight around midnight waking most of the campers that were not in large RV's with loud air conditioners and terrifying several children. Yes, camping at the Anvil Campground was an unforgettable experience ... just not one we will repeat. I'll end by quote the guy on the site next to us when he said, "camping here is like camping on the median."
