Opened in l998, the College Park Aviation Museum is a 27,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility located on the grounds of College Park Airport, the world's oldest continuously operating airport. Visitors are greeted in the first gallery by an animatronic Wilbur Wright. The gallery is a one-eighth scale replica of the hangar the Wright brothers built to house their first military aeroplane. It was here in 1909 that Wilbur gave instruction to the first military officers to fly a government aeroplane. The DAR Museum, DC’s only decorative arts museum, consists of 31 period rooms and two galleries displaying art such as furniture, ceramics, glass, paintings, and silver made or used in early America, as well as later objects used to compare and contrast with earlier material. The Frontier Culture Museum (a.k.a. Museum of American Frontier Culture) is a unique museum which offers 17th, 18th and 19th century European and American history as an experience, featuring appropriate furnishings, crops, animals, foods, and a knowledgeable staff of costumed interpreters that help create a living illustration of life in Europe before immigration to America and the culture they built on one of America's first frontiers. Home of George Mason, Author of America's First Bill of Rights.

Built in 1755, Gunston Hall was the plantation home of George Mason (1725-1792). He was the Father of the Bill of Rights. His life and times are vividly evoked by his commodious house and gardens overlooking the Potomac River. A museum shop specializes in gifts and books inspired by 18th-century Virginia including handblown glass, jewelry, creamware, preserves, teas, gardening things, and needlework. Plantation hours are 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM daily.

The Heurich House Museum was the home of German Brewer Christian Heurich. He built his Dupont Circle home in 1894. Today it is a fully furnished Victorian house museum, open for self-guided tours.

The National Woman's Party, with headquarters in the historic Sewall-Belmont House on Capitol Hill, was founded in 1916 to press for women's suffrage. Sewall-Belmont House is one of the few sites in the United States dedicated to the history of suffrage and it contains fascinating memorabilia from that time, including many original banners, photographs, and political cartoons by Nina Allender. It also houses one of the oldest feminist libraries in the country. The Sewall-Belmont House is part of the Federal "Save America's Treasures" Millennium Program and is a National Historic Site, affiliated with the National Park Service. Part of an estate established by George F. Hupp in the 1750s, Hupps Hill commands breathtaking views of Strasburg, the Shenandoah Valley and Massanutten Mountain (with the Blue Ridge and the Appalachian Mountains in the far background.)
