Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to honor our veterans and famous Americans by visiting the monuments in Washington, DC. Some of the monuments have special memorial services throughout the weekend.

Since its debut in 1990, public television's National Memorial Day Concert has touched the hearts and minds of millions of Americans seeking to honor those who served the nation in time of war. One of PBS's top-rated performance programs, the annual 90-minute broadcast features an array of world class talent, military performing groups, and the renowned National Symphony Orchestra.

The memorial opened to the public on April 29, 2004 and was dedicated one month later on May 29. It is located on 17th Street, between Constitution and Independence Avenues, and is flanked by the Washington Monument to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west. The memorial is now operated by the National Park Service and is open to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
