Constitution Gardens is a living legacy to the founding of the republic as well as an oasis in the midst ofa city landscape.

The purpose of this event is to conduct a program for the education and inspiration of the visiting public allowing enhanced understanding of the American Revolution and the men, women, and children who participated in it. The dates of the event, June 30 and July 1, 2001, closely coincide with the 225th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence. The National Mall, as the nation's "town common", represents a fitting and high-profile location for such an event. Re-enactors who would like to come to the National Mall are encouraged to do so since this is a one-time event and no future events, such as the Liberty-on-the-Mall, will be permitted.

Constitution Avenue and the Monuments in Washington D.C. form the setting for this televised National Parade.

The Independence Day Parade Associates, comprised of Music Celebrations International and Federal City Tours are the co-sponsors of the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C. A five-year contract with the National Park Service perpetuates this sponsorship through the year 2000.
