- The cherry blossom festival of Sunomata has been famous since old times. On the banks of the Sai River, about 1,000 cherry blossom trees line a 2 km stretch of the town. During the spring the cherry tree bloom and the festival begins (the time of festival varies due to weather conditions) . Ichiyajo Castle (One Night Castle) is the central area for the festival and is open during the day and into the night. Enjoy the festival atmosphere of the cherry trees, illuminated by 'bonbori' lanterns and the many stalls staffed by friendly townsman. For a real Japanese experience away from crowds of tourists this is one festival to visit.
