DC United
Although soccer is still considered by many to be a "niche sport" in United States, more Americans are being converted to fans of the glorious game as each year passes. With the birth of Major League Soccer in 1996, the U.S. once again had a top-flight league, allowing soccer-hungry fans across the country to watch the world's most popular sport in their own backyard. As a charter member of MLS, D.C. United first stepped onto the pitch in 1996, and the team from the Nation's Capital would quickly set the standard for excellence in the league on the field and in the stands. In its short, eight-year history, D.C. United has earned more domestic and international honors than any other American side, done battle against some of the world's most famous clubs and built a fiercely loyal and dedicated fan base that understands and appreciates world-class soccer.

Washington Redskins
In professional football’s early days, Washington was one of the game’s most powerful clubs, capturing two league crowns and posting ten consecutive winning records from 1936 to 1945. Leading the Redskins’ high-scoring offense were two-time rushing champion Cliff Battles and six-time passing champion Sammy Baugh—both eventual Hall of Fame members. The Redskins play at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, and wear uniforms of burgundy, gold, and white. The Redskins look to come back with a great season this year with many new additions to the team including all star running back, Clinton Portis and coach Joe Gibb's comeback.

Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals were conceived in the summer of 1972 when contractor and NBA franchise owner Abe Pollin won out over eleven applicants for an NHL expansion franchise. The Caps would join the league in the 1974-75 season with hall of fame player Milt Schmidt as their first general manager and Jimmy Anderson behind the bench as the team's first coach. This first year would be a tough one for the team, which would break and set numerous NHL records for futility. Schmidt was succeeded by Max McNab and Anderson was followed by Red Sullivan as coach of the Capitals. With past playoff disappointments behind them, the Capitals finally put some of their critics to rest by defeating the Sabres in six games to make it to their first ever Stanley Cup final. However they unfortunately lost to the Red Wings.

Baltimore Orioles
A young Orioles club took the field and was one of the league's surprises through the first 126 games, winning 63 and seemingly en route to a winning season. A 4-32 finish put a damper on the year, but there were some bright spots. Rodrigo Lopez was named Team MVP and the Sporting News American League Rookie Pitcher of the Year while Jay Gibbons hit 28 home runs. It was the fifth consecutive fourth place finish for the Orioles, who finished the year on a 12-game losing streak.

Washington Wizards
Wander down memory lane with the franchise that began as the Chicago Packers in 1961, to several seasons in Baltimore, then landing in Washington, as the Washington Bullets, in 1974. And finally, since the end of the 1996-1997 season, with a new logo and name...the Washington Wizards. Michael Jordan came onboard in the 1999-2000 season but he did not actually make a different until the 2001-2002 season. He led the team to an 18-game improvement in the standings (19-63 to 37-45) from the year before. Propelled by Jordan's comeback, the Wizards led the NBA in regular season attendance.
The 2002-03 season would be the final goodbye for one of the NBA's greatest players as Michael Jordan finished out his historic 15 year career as a Wizard.
