Both as a seafood market and as an inexpensive restaurant serving seafood, this establishment doesn't get the respect it deserves. Located in the high-rent heart of Bethesda, it nevertheless serves good seafood at bargain prices. Diners order at a counter, eat with plastic utensils, and clear the tables themselves, but the setting, with colorful photomurals of seafood, is attractive. A large case of fish on ice along one side of the market lends assurances that the raw ingredients are indeed fresh.

The space on the Southwest waterfront that housed Hogate's restaurant for decades got a major makeover and was reborn as H2O in December 2003.
