El Chalan

http://www.elchalanrestaurant.com

El Chalan Restaurant was founded in 1975 be Pedro Espinoza and Elsa Cervantes de Espinoza. They were two Peruvian nationals that emigrated to the United Staters with a dream to provide a better life for themselves and their family. To sample Peruvian food at it's best, El Chalan is still hard to beat. It's arroz con mariscos and seco de res (a beef stew) top the menu. But so does its ever popular lomo saltado and papas a la huancaina. The ceviche is also a house specialty. For dessert, make sure you leave room for the flan and the alfajores (wafers with caramel rolled in confectioner's sugar).

The Grill From Ipanema

http://www.thegrillfromipanema.com

With the exception of a few churrascarias, which offer all-you-can-eat mixed grills and salad bars, Brazilian restaurants are a rarity on the local ethnic-dining scene. Even those with good kitchens could not survive solely with the support of the small Brazilian community. The caipirinhas – extra-strength clear liquor barely diluted with fresh limes – make you feel young and beautiful and on vacation. Try the feijoada, the black bean stew filled with a mysterious conglomeration of sausages and pork parts, to be spooned over rice and complemented with orange wedges, shredded collards and grainy farofa. 1858 Columbia Road NW, Washington, DC 20009
