- Wild turkey populations have been expanding across Maryland, Secretary Taylor-Rogers said. The high quality wild turkey habitat found throughout Maryland has benefited the species tremendously. We would not be able to sustain this level of harvest without good, quality habitat. Likewise, annual production has been sufficient to sustain turkey populations at levels that can support a continued spring harvest. This is the first time the spring hunting harvest has exceeded 3,000 birds.
