MeriStar is a unique combination of two companies-- MeriStar Hospitality Corporation, a hotel real estate investment trust (REIT), and MeriStar Hotels & Resorts, Inc., a hotel management company--that operate as a paper clip REIT. Under this form of ownership, the management company and the REIT are independent, but closely aligned companies that are "paper-clipped" together through an intercompany agreement and shared directors. The MeriStar companies were formed as a result of the merger between American General Hospitality Corporation and CapStar Hotel Company in August 1998. Both companies are headquartered in Washington, D.C. and have regional offices in Dallas and Raleigh, NC.
