My name is Judi Lainer, and I am an active member of the House Rabbit Society in the Baltimore/Washington chapter. I am also involved in an ongoing rescue of guinea pigs from local area shelters. These guineas have a better opportunity for adoption if given time to become healthy and happy - something that shelters don't have time for, especially with small animals. In conjunction with a lack of time, most shelters are inexperienced with the needs of guinea pigs. These are reasons why I try to take them in when shelters are having a hard time adopting them out and are ready to euthanize them.

Parrot Rescue!, located in Savage Maryland, was established in 1988 by Dee Thompson, avian behavior consultant and trainer. Dee started working with birds in the research laboratory at Patuxent Research Institute. There she works to help endangered birds to survive and hopefully, one day, thrive for future generations.

The Mid-Atlantic Turtle and Tortoise Society, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting the responsible herpetoculture of turtles and tortoises, promoting and supporting the study of chelonian natural history, and conserving Mid-Atlantic chelonian species and habitat. We are an all-volunteer organization founded in February, 1997, and directed by concerned hobbyists and professionals, who saw a need to reach out to the public and improve the conditions under which captive chelonians are kept and try to protect local species and their habitats. While there are other respected herpetological organizations in the area (most members are in the Baltimore -Washington- Northern Va. area, though more than twenty states are now represented), ours is the only one dedicated exclusively to turtles and tortoises.
