NCBI is a recognized leader in basic research in computationalmolecular biology, and is also responsible for developing innovative computer solutions for themanagement and dissemination of the rapidly growing volume of genome information. This service provides access to extensive information about specific diseases and conditions and also has links to consumer health information from the National Institutes of Health, dictionaries, lists of hospitals and physicians, health information in Spanish and other languages, and clinical trials. The National Library of Medicine (NLM), on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda,Maryland, is the world's largest medical library. The Library collects materials in all areas of biomedicineand health care, as well as works on biomedical aspects of technology, the humanities, and the physical,life, and social sciences. The collections stand at 5.8 million items--books, journals, technical reports,manuscripts, microfilms, photographs and images. Housed within the Library is one of the world's finestmedical history collections of old and rare medical works. The Library's collection may be consulted in thereading room or requested on interlibrary loan. NLM is a national resource for all U.S. health sciencelibraries through a National Network of Libraries of Medicine.

The 14-story Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center is NIH's center for clinical research. Patients come from all over theworld to participate in clinical studies here. Each year, the Clinical Center admits about 7,000 inpatients. Another 68,000 patientsparticipate in studies as outpatients.
