- Interagency Arbovirus Task Force has developed plans to monitor for West Nile virus in mosquitoes, birds, horses, and humans, all possible targets for West Nile virus.
The task force includes representatives from other state agencies but is coordinated by the Virginia Department of Health. The task force also will alert the health care community and veterinarians, will capture and identify mosquitoes and will beef up laboratory services to conduct analyses of samples from suspected cases. Dr. Peterson said the public and medical community will be notified immediately and special mosquito control measures may be needed if West Nile is confirmed in Virginia.
