- Owned and operated by the Gallahan family for six generations, this farm and apple orchard features a weekend Fall Harvest Festival, $6, through Oct. 31. (Weekday admission, with fewer activities, is $4.50 through Oct. 15, and $5 Oct. 16 through 31.) Highlights include more than 450 scarecrow characters, a "Journey to Oz" nature trail, hayrides, a Harry Potter-themed fun barn, farm animals and other children's activities. Make a scarecrow ($5) on Oct. 13, 14, 20 and 21. Call for a schedule of weekend entertainment, including such acts as pumpkin carvers and stilt walkers. Cherry Hill specializes in homemade ice cream and baked goods. The farm also operates a five-acre, spider-themed "Maze of Cornfusion" at Cherry Hill II, on Piscataway Road about five miles from the main site. Open Fridays 4 to 7 and Saturdays and Sundays 11 to 7, $5 per person.

Last year we sold 100 tons, mostly Howdens, which are face pumpkins and also good for pies.``Cider Mill farms scarecrows every weekend in October, little ones and big ones, using both adult or children's clothes. - George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens offers fun for the entire family during its Fall Harvest Family Days, Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., when Mount Vernon’s George Washington: Pioneer Farmer site hosts games, wagon rides, music, and 18th-century craft and harvest demonstrations.``
