CRYPTKEEPERS DELIGHT
If you really want to have some gruesome fun on Halloween, invite your friends to visit THE TOMB. Have them sit blindfolded, one at a time, in a chair. Then hand them bowls and dare them to touch the gross objects that you "found" in THE TOMB. Here are some ideas, but feel free to create your own ghoulish props!

eyeballs  two peeled grapes
fingers   fresh green beans (stems removed!)
teeth     dried beans
brains    cooked spaghetti
ears      dried apricots
guts      canned pork and beans

PUMPKIN PAILS
This is a great project to do with kids in anticipation of Trick or Treating. It promotes recycling as well as creativity. If you have older children or are hosting a Halloween party, the kids can make them as serving containers for festive decorating. You will need:

plastic containers (such as margarine tubs, whipped topping tubs, etc..)
orange spray paint
dimensional paints (for older kids)
construction paper or stickers (for younger kids)
glue
pipe cleaners
single hole punch

Clean the containers well and let dry. An adult (or supervised older child) should spray paint the outside of the container. Let dry. For older children, have them draw a jack-o-lantern face (or whatever they chose!) and then fill it in with dimensional paint. Let dry thoroughly. For younger children, let them apply Halloween stickers or cut out a jack-o-lantern face and glue it on. After the pail has dried thoroughly, have an adult punch two holes on opposite sides of the container. Insert a pipe cleaner in the holes and secure for a handle.

PAINT STICKERS
This is fun for older kids (about 7 and up.) They may want to show of their decoration on their dresser or bathroom mirrors. You will need:

dimensional paints in white, black, and orange and/or neon and glow in the dark colors
wiggle eyes
wax paper
scissors

Halloween patterns (I suggest coloring books, pictures in magazines, etc..) Select a simple shape (like a bat, ghost, pumpkin, etc..) or draw your own with black marker. Tape wax paper over the pattern so that the outline of the picture can be seen through the wax paper. Squeeze the paint to create the outline of the picture and then fill in the rest with more paint (very much like coloring). For ghosts, bats, spiders or anything with eyes, place wiggle eyes in the tacky paint. Additional features like mouths can be added by gently applying the new color over the background color (works well on bats and ghosts.) Keep project level and allow to dry for at least 24 hours. When dry, gently peel off the wax paper. Shape may be trimmed at this time, if needed. Just dampen the back and stick to windows or mirrors! Reusable.

GHOSTLY FUN
This is a project that even little children can participate in. These adorable ghosts can decorate a party table, a bedroom dresser, a classroom windowsill, etc. Quick and simple to make. You will need:

soda pop bottle, any size
balloon or Styrofoam ball
wire or pipe cleaners
rubber band
white fabric (can be anything, even an old t shirt)
ribbon, orange and black
markers, orange and black
sand, cat litter, rice--- anything to add weight to the bottle to keep it upright

If you are using a 2 liter bottle, blow up a balloon to 6 inches or use a 6" Styrofoam ball. For 16-20 oz bottles, use a 3" balloon or ball. Fill the bottle with sand or rice to give it a little added weight so that it won't tip easily. Cut fabric into a square (36" is about right for 2 liter project.) Shape wire or pipe cleaners to extend as arms. Attach by wrapping around the neck of the bottle near the cap. If necessary, secure with tape as well. Pick fabric up at the center and put on top of the balloon (or ball), trying to line up center of the fabric with center of the balloon. Let fabric drape over bottle and arrange evenly. Place rubber band over to secure fabric while you tie the ribbon on. With markers, draw a face. Then arrange the arms in a suitably frightening pose and display!

SPIDERS, SPIDERS, EVERYWHERE!
This is a simple project and the kids will probably want to make lots of them. Spider sizes can be easily adjusted so they can create entire spooky families of arachnids. You will need:

black pompoms
black pipe cleaners
small wiggle eyes
black double ended stamens (optional, available in craft stores)
old scissors (or wire cutters)
glue

Depending on the size of the pom pom, cut an appropriate length of pipe cleaner to be the legs. Leg length can certainly be varied from spider to spider, but be sure that you use 4 pieces of the same length on a single spider. Lay the four pieces together and twist a couple of times in the center to join. Then gently fan out the legs and bend about halfway down each so the spider will stand. Glue pompom on top and glue wiggle eyes to pompom. If antennae are desired, fold a double ended stamen in half and glue above eyes.

BLACK CATS
Similar to spiders above with a few variations. You will need:

black pompoms - both large and small
very small pink pompoms
black pipe cleaners
black thread
small wiggle eyes
black felt

Glue a small black pompom on a large black pompom to for the head and body of the cat. Cut 2 pieces of black pipe cleaner (about 4-6" depending on pompom size) and twist together in the middle. Glue to the bottom of the cat's body to form legs. Take a 3" piece of pipe cleaner and bend to create a spooky tail. Glue to cat. Cut 3, 2" pieces of black thread. With ends even, glue on thread and place a very small pink pompom in the center of threads to be the nose. Glue on wiggle eyes. After project is dry, trim whisker length if needed.
