Goals 2000 Program

The Goals 2000 Program Office Provides overall leadership and direction for the implementation of the Goals 2000: EducateAmerica Act. Goals 2000 provides grants to States to develop and carry out comprehensive reform plans based on settingchallenging content and performance standards in core academic areas; describing how the system will be reformed to bring allchildren to the high standards; and developing sets of assessments that will measure progress of all children toward reaching thestandards. The appropriation for FY 95 was $372 million. In addition, the Goals 2000 staff is responsible for two discretionaryprograms. Title IV of Goals established a program for parent centers.
